It figured to be an uphill task for the Arkansas City High School basketball teams Tuesday night against Class 5A No. 3-ranked Andover Central girls and boys.

And it was.

The Lady Bulldogs were decimated by Andover Central 69-18 in the matinee, and the ACHS boys fell 60-36 in the nightcap in AV-CTL D-II action in The Dawg Pound.

Ark City is a combined 0-12 in league play at the midway point of the season.

The Bulldogs (2-6, 0-6 AV-CTL D-II) shot just 23.8% from the floor (5 of 21) in the first half and trailed 27-14 at halftime.

Ark City sank one more field goal in seven fewer tries in the second half, hitting 42.9% and finished at a 31.4% clip (11 of 35).

The Bulldogs were woeful on the boards, outrebounded 32-15 by the Jaguars (7-0, 4-0), who are outscoring the opposition by more than 20 points a game (57.9 to 37.7).

Andover Central outscored the Bulldogs 21-3 in bench points and 10-3 in points off of turnovers, even though both teams committed six miscues. And the Jaguars enjoyed an 18-4 discrepancy in points in the paint.

Trevor Pierce led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting for Ark City. Aidan Brantley added eight points and Seth Zimmerman tallied six points for the Bulldogs, who were 8 of 14 from the foul line.

Kobe Smith had 14 points and Max Holcomb added 12 points off the bench for the Jaguars, who were 6 of 9 from the line.

Girls

Andover Central 69, Arkansas City 18

The visiting Lady Jaguars led from start to finish, holding Ark City to three first-half points.

Andover Central buried 11 baskets from 3-point range.

The Lady Jaguars (6-1, 3-1 AV-CTL D-II) led 25-2 after one quarter and 47-3 at halftime, extending their lead to 50-3 early in the second half.

Ark City committed 26 turnovers and the Lady Jags capitalized by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 27-0 in points off of turnovers.

While shooting 39.3% from 3-point range (11 of 28), Andover Central also pounded the paint, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 30-4 inside.

Brylee Thompson led the Ark City starters with six points. Kierslynn Waggoner added six points off the bench for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished 18.8% from the floor (6 of 32) and 3 of 8 from the foul line.

Brittany Harshaw poured in 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor, including 5 of 7 from the arc to go with eight rebounds and four assists for the Lady Jags, who were 4 of 7 from the line. Ellie Stearns added 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor, 4 of 11 from long range.
