SOUTH HAVEN — After a slow start, the Udall High School boys basketball team is beginning to show signs of life.

The Eagles defeated South Haven 62-43 in nonleague action between two South Central Border League teams.

The Eagles (3-6) opened the season with six straight losses, but have won three in a row.

Udall led 33-22 at halftime, then held the Cardinals (4-5) to five third-quarter points.

Austin King scored 13 of his game-high 23 points in the first half for Udall before sitting out much of the fourth quarter. Jenson Harness scored nine of his 11 points before halftime. Aaron Blagg came off the bench for eight points and Trent Whiteman added seven points for the Eagles, who were 7 of 11 from the foul line.

Alex Shore drained three baskets from 3-point range and led South Haven with 15 points. Freshman Tanner Kelly added a spark off the bench with three treys and 11 points, all in the second half. Tucker Locke added a pair of treys and eight points for the Cardinals, who missed all five free-throw attempts.

In other SCBL games involving area teams, Central of Burden beat Argonia 64-39 and Caldwell defeated Oxford 57-42.

South Haven 43, Udall 13

SOUTH HAVEN — The South Haven Lady Cardinals held visiting Udall to one first-half point Tuesday night and rolled to a 43-13 nonleague victory.

A free throw by Abby Hoffman was the sole output for the Lady Eagles (1-8) in the first half, as South Haven took a 27-1 lead at the break.

It was the Lady Cardinals (6-3) who were shut out in the fourth quarter.

There were no 3-pointers made and the teams combined for just 14 fouls and seven free throws.

Macey Pond scored a game-high 10 points for South Haven before sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Alyssa Bridges also sat out the fourth stanza after a nine-point effort. Jacee Theurer, Kamdyn Butler and Aubrey Pond added six points apiece for the Lady Cardinals, who were 3 of 5 from the foul line.

Abby Hoffman scored five points and Elizabeth Jirak added four for the Lady Eagles, who were 1 of 2 from the line.

In other SCBL games involving area teams, Oxford defeated Caldwell 28-21 and Argonia bested Central of Burden 62-26.
