A year ago the Arkansas City Bulldog football team stunned Andover Central in the 4A playoffs. This year the home-team Jaguars got some revenge in a 35-0 blow out win over the visiting Bulldogs.

Andover Central, now 7-1, allowed more than 20 points just once this season and there defense dominated again Friday night, holding the Bulldogs to just 94 yards of total offense.

Ark City fell to 3-5 on the season and will travel to McPherson, 6-2, for the first round of the state playoffs. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

In Andover, the Jags dominated the game with a powerful run game that featured senior Jackson Rees tally 178 on 20 carries and two touchdowns. They amassed 349 yards of total offense and led 21-0 at the half.

With no starting quarterback Gabe Welch for the Bulldogs, the Central defense pinned their ears back and really made Ark City work for every yard they earned. Junior quarterback Cadon Clark scrambling all night long. The Bulldogs finished with minus-14 yards rushing on the evening.

The ‘Dawgs threatened though in the second quarter after an interception gave them the ball at midfield. A steady drive mixing short passes and runs, including a fourth-and-one conversion led to three first downs and took Ark City to the Jaguars 11-yard line. But the drive ended on an interception for a touchback.

The Andover players admitted there was some motivation from last year's loss.

"It was a big driving motivation for our whole team," Dillon Savage said. "It didn't feel good last year but it felt good this year."

The culmination of the game came midway through the fourth when Savage had a sack and then Nate Peak added in a sack that forced at turnover on downs. The Jaguars scored two plays later to make it 35-0.
