TOPEKA — Arkansas City and Winfield collected four state titles March 11-13 at the State Folkstyle Championships at the Stormont Vail Event Center.
Winfield brought home three titles.
Evan Hasselbring compiled a 4-0 record in the boys *U 73-pound weight class, taking the laurels with a 9-2 decision against Cragen Smith of Team Triumph in the title bout.
Maurice Atkins claimed the 10U 130-pound boys title, going 3-0. Atkins gritted out a 9-7 decision against Dawson Kientz of Team Tiger in the title match.
Abigail Brenn compiled a perfect 3-0 record to win the girls 14U 185-pound title. Brenn shut out Madalyn LeValley of Wellington 5-0 in the title match.
Hayden McCorgary was Ark City’s state champion, winning the crown in the 10U 190-pound boys division. McCorgary pinned Lucas Barnes of Phillipsburg in two minutes and took a fall from Jesse Hixon of Gray County in 1:11.
Winfield’s Mikayla Konrade was state runner-up in the high school girls 132-pound division.
Konrade pinned Nora Prather of DC Gold in just 29 seconds, and needed 35 seconds to pin Maddie Snowbarger of Derby. Konrade fell to Leighanna Patz of Team Bullpup in the title match.
Teammate Mauriana Atkins was state runner-up in the girls 10U heavyweight division. Atkins defeated Tynsley Leonard of Maize 2-0, but lost to Kaylee Thompson of Mulvane.
Talon Suttles and Kody Brenn took home bronze medals for Winfield.
Suttles went 4-1 in the boys 14U 110-pound division, rebounding from a semifinal loss to Alex Robles of the U-Town Hammers to defeat Aiden Stuart of Lawrence Elite 5-3, then took a 6-2 decision against Sebastian Bentley of the SC Punishers for third.
Brenn went 4-1 in the boys high school 182-pound division. Brenn bounced back from a semifinal loss to Ayden Flores of Maize to defeat Ryan Beavers of Republic County 5-4, then eked out a 3-2 decision in the third-place match against Jake Meyer of Wamego.
Grant Rogers earned bronze for Ark City, going 4-1 in the boys 8U 95-pound division. Rogers lost to Cire Watson of Team Hard Knox, but came back with a 2-1 decision against Damian Chartier of Hays before topping Bentley Reddick-Keehn of Lawrence Elite 5-3 in the third-place match.
