The Winfield Vikings football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead Friday night at Independence and held on for a 21-7 victory in the first round of high school football playoffs.

Running back Justice Tate scored bookend, short-yardage touchdowns to lead the Vikings. Quarterback Riley Yingling scampered 20 yards for the other score. 

Ar'mon Acosta did not score but dominated on the ground with 19 carries for 143 yards.

The 4-5 Vikings will face the 8-1 Buhler Crusaders on Nov. 5 in Regional play.
