The Winfield High School girls golf team captured its second title in as many meets Thursday afternoon, winning their own Winfield Invitational at Winfield Country Club.

The Lady Vikings placed three golfers in the top five and four in the top seven, carding a team 376, 11 strokes ahead of Bishop Carroll. Haysville-Campus (453) and Arkansas City (466) also fielded complete teams, with Derby and Mulvane not having enough for team scores.

“We had a good day yesterday,” WHS coach Dave Bertholf said. “Our tournament was down on numbers with COVID protocol. We had a couple of teams who could not play and a few teams that were down on numbers.”

WHS senior Chaney Littell was runner-up, firing an 86 to finish three strokes behind Bishop Carroll’s Keira Ronsick.

Senior teammate Celina Mendoza was right behind in third place with a 94, and junior Savanna Nickum was fifth with a 97.

Ark City junior Breanna Ruyle shot a 98 to finish sixth.

Teammates Tayeah Rich (19th) and Aidyn Holman (20th) were one shot apart with scores of 120 and 121, respectively.

Ark City’s Kamryn Mendoza tied for 22nd with a 127 and Alaina Brantley was 27th with a 151.

Winfield freshman Clover Maples placed 26th with a 140.

“Our girls played well and beat a good Bishop Carrol team,” Bertholf said. “Our two seniors played very well. Savanna and Carly also medaled in the top 10.”
