Lady Bulldogs hit four homers, win in walk-off fashion

Arkansas City High School junior Ayanna Jennings is all smiles after crossing the plate on a home run Thursday afternoon against Hutchinson at the ACHS Sports Complex. The Lady Bulldogs cracked four homers in the sweep of the twinbill.

Hadley Colquhoun singled home Ayanna Jennings with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading the Arkansas City High School softball team to a 7-6 walk-off victory against Hutchinson in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at the ACHS Sports Complex.

Ark City pounded out 15 hits to take the nightcap 14-7.

Jennings reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener and advanced on an error. Cady Dickey drew a walk, and Harlee Bullard reached on a fielder’s choice, setting up Colquhoun’s walk-off single to right-center.

Taverli Tennant struck out three in two hitless innings to pick up the victory in the circle in relief of Colquhoun, who allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings.

Tennant and Dickey homered for the Lady Bulldogs (3-5).

Tennant and Mike Munson had two hits apiece, and Dickey drew a pair of walks and drove in two for Ark City.

Jayden Rehlander, who homered for the Lady Salt Hawks (0-4), took the loss in the circle. She went six innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks, with two strikeouts.

The two teams combined for 21 runs, 25 hits and 10 errors in the nightcap.

Hutchinson jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Lady Bulldogs responded with a seven-run third inning. They added two more in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Tennant had three hits, including another home run, scoring three and driving in three from the leadoff spot. Jennings added two hits, including a homer, scored twice and drove in two, while Munson was 2 for 3. Bullard and Colquhoun added two hits apiece, with Bullard driving in two.

Tennant went the distance in the circle, giving up seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits and a walk, with four strikeouts.

Karcin Regier homered twice for Hutchinson, and Rehlander added her second home run of the day.
