HAYSVILLE — The Winfield High School boys soccer team salvaged seventh place Saturday at the Goddard/Campus Tournament with an 11-1 shellacking of AV-CTL D-III foe El Dorado.
The Vikings (2-3) actually spotted the winless Wildcats (0-4) a goal 5 1/2 minutes in before going to work.
Kyan Towles scored the equalizer off a feed from Julien Washington less than a minute later.
Zach Hammar put away the go-ahead score five minutes later on a penalty kick, the first of two PKs for Winfield in the game.
Trevor Shelton, Gabriel Tapia and Washington all added goals before Shelton scored his second off a pass from Pedro Anguiano with 3:23 left in the half to give the Vikings a 6-1 lead.
Hammar and Towles added their second goals of the game 31 seconds apart early in the second half. Timmy Ruggles and Drake Lowe followed with goals before Tapia capped the scoring off a feed from Towles.
Washington finished with a goal and three assists. Hammar added two assists, while Towles and Monte James assisted with other scores.
The Vikings were set to open AV-CTL D-III play Tuesday at McPherson.
