WHS Stars Running to Greater Lengths

Winfield High School seniors Craig LaBrue, left, and Camilo Tarin recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their cross country and track and field careers.

LaBrue, who has signed with Pittsburg State University, was a three-time All-State and four-time all-regional and all-league member in cross country, leading the Vikings to a fourth-place finish in 2019 and a third-place finish in 2020 at the KSHSAA Class 4A State Championships. He was 4A Regional champion in 2018 and runner-up in 2019. LaBrue ranks ninth in school history in the 5,000-meter run. and is a two-time State medalist (1,600m and 3,200m).

Tarin, who signed with Hutchinson Community College, was first-team All-State last year and second-team All-State in 2019. He was first-team All-Region in both 2019 and 2020, finishing as the Regional runner-up last year. Tarin is a three-time State qualifier in track and field, and was a State medalist in 2019 (800m). Tarin ranks 10th in school history in the 5,000-meter run.

In addition to the WHS coaches, Tarin is flanked by his mother, Nubia Tarin.
